Let me introduce Bob the Lump 👋🏻

Let me introduce Bob the Lump 👋🏻

I first met Bob in the shower, he suddenly appeared on my left side below my hip bone. I had no other symptoms, so I stupidly hoped he’d disappear. Spoiler: he didn’t. Six months of poking and prodding, blood tests, ultrasounds, fine needle biopsies, an MRI, a full biopsy and finally a PET-CT scan later, I got the diagnosis.

Nodular Sclerosis Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma 🩺🩻 Simply put, it’s a type of blood cancer that starts in the lymphatic system. The very system designed to protect me formed lumps instead of fighting them.

I won't focus on the details of my treatment or recovery: this is about Bob. Once he showed up, he became one of the toughest teachers. His lessons are difficult to articulate but I can say he taught me gratitude and joy for the little moments I used to overlook, and perspective on what truly matters ❤️

My work on scars and skin in Cheltenham brings me into conversations with people whose lives have been shaped by change and trauma. In those moments we often share lessons learnt and reflect on the aftermath. The details may differ, but common threads emerge: resilience, purpose, some hard truths and the reminder that it’s never the end. It's the start of something neuü.

And so here I am.

🎗️ Bob and I are joining forces today for World Lymphoma Awareness Day. If something feels off, please get checked. Don’t ignore the unexpected 🎗️
